Vote for your new Chair person and Branch Secretary

Vote for Sam and Nicky!

We’re excited to announce that we, Sam Riddle and Nicky Evans, are standing for the positions of Chair and Branch Secretary of NUBSLI.

We know what you might be thinking—“Haven’t they done this before?” Yes, we’ve both previously served as Branch Secretary. But we’re not stepping up because we’re clinging to the past. We’re stepping up because these are challenging times, and we’ve faced a hostile environment before! Since no one else has yet come forward, we’re offering our experience and energy to keep NUBSLI strong while making space for new voices to rise.

The current political climate is hostile:

• Threats to the welfare state and Access to Work
• Growing pressure to push through AI interpreters
• Cuts and policies that directly harm Deaf and Disabled People’s communities

It is essential that NUBSLI stands as a strong ally to the deaf and disabled people’s community. Now more than ever, NUBSLI needs strong, experienced advocates who can hit the ground running. We have the relationships, campaigning experience, and connections with groups like Disabled People Against the Cuts (DPAC) and key activists who can amplify our work.

But this isn’t just about us

We’re passionate about nurturing the next generation of interpreters and activists. We want to mentor new committee members, share our knowledge, and hand over the reins to passionate committed people who can take our union from strength to strength. Our goal is to build a strong, diverse leadership pipeline for NUBSLI’s future. This is not about holding on to power. It’s about holding the line until others are ready to lead.

We hope you’ll support us at this critical time.
